It is just thick enough for a uniform layer of color, just barely thicker than a layer of 'tarnish'.I dislike the Alto, I have a SX90, and did not care at all for the Soprano's. The 62 can be pretty bright depending on your disposition and the era of the sax. The 82Z is a darker sound than the 62 and blows a lot freer than the SX90. All 3 are good, usable saxes and solid for learning on. SAXBOY.The ideal choice is the bass saxophone. The attack of the bass sax defines the time at least as well as the string bass. Pristine silver plate. Possibly my favourite alto - wonderful rich tone and excellent intonation - but then it has been expertly set up.
